Sahara Explorer

This is an excellent way to visit many sights in Southern Tunisia, including the superb Roman amphitheatre at El Jem and the home of the Berber tribesman in the caves of Matmata; one of the settings of the Star Wars movies.

You can meet the camel train and dress as Laurence of Arabia as you trek through the Sahara Desert, the largest salt lake of the African Sahara and the setting of The Raiders Of The Lost Arc.

You will enjoy the freshness of an oasis, marvel at the natural beauty of the Selja Mountain and finish at the carpet making centre of Tunisia.

PROGRAM:

DAY 1:

• Departure from different hotels at 06.00.
• Journey to El Jem (1h.45min).
• Arrive at El Jem at around 7.45 am.
• Visit the amphitheatre (1 hour).
• Back to coach and down to Matmata ( 3h30min). On the way, there will be a refreshment stop.
• Arrival to Matmata and visit a Berber house.
• Stop for lunch in the village.
• Continue to Douz (01.h30min).
• Arrival at destination and camel trek (optional extra 1hour).
• Dinner and accommodation in hotel.

Day 2:

• Early start to cross Chott El Jerid.
• Then onto Tozeur capital of El Jerid.
• Visit of the lush date plantations (optional carriage ride 1 hour)
• Get on the "Red Lizard"(at 10 am). Stop for lunch on the way
• Continue towards Kairouan and stop at the carpet centre or ramble in the Medina (45min)
• Drive back to resort and arrival at around 6.30 mn.
